Alice O. Solberg, 87, of Moorhead, Iowa died Tuesday, February 5, 1991, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa following a sudden illness.
She was born September 11, 1903 at rural Soldier, Iowa, the daughter of Even and Amelia (Amunson) Ulven. She was the second of twelve children born to this couple. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith as a child at Soldier Lutheran Country church.
Alice was united in marriage to LaVerne “Shorty” Solberg on November 3, 1923, in Onawa, Iowa. She spent all her life around Moorhead, living in the country for the first few years and then later in Moorhead. She and her husband owned and operated the Solberg Well Co. for many years. She spent most of her years caring for her home and her children. She enjoyed all her family.
She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead Chapter #528 Order of Eastern Star and the 55 Plus Club.
Survivors include her daughter, Joyce, and her husband, Earl Ballantyne of Moorhead; four sons Donald and his wife, JoAnn and Gordon and his wife, Janis, all of Moorhead, Russel and his wife, Nola of Hawarden and Jerry of Red Oak; three sisters, Cora Howard of Dunlap, Gilma Kirchoff of San Rafael, California and Evelyn Seaton of Moorhead; 26 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 8, 1991, at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead, Iowa, with Steven J. Solberg officiating. The organist, Mrs. Steven J Solberg, played “How Great Thou Art” and “Precious Lord, Take My Hand”.
Active and honorary casket bearers were grandsons.
Interment was in Spring Valley Cemetery, Moorhead, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
A memorial has been established in her name with the Moorhead Rescue Unit.
