William Koontz 1902-1968

William Koontz of 1320 Dubuque Street in Sioux City, the son of James R. and Katherine Zenner Koontz was born January 18, 1902 at Turin and passed away unexpectedly at his home August 19.

When a small child, his parents moved to the vicinity of Whiting, where he farmed with his father and after the retirement of his parents he moved to Onawa, where he was employed by West Transfer Co. of Onawa for several years.

In 1943 he moved to Sioux City, where he was employed by the National Food Store warehouse.

January 21, 1945 he was united in marriage to Doris Hebeler at Onawa.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; two sons, Roland J. of Coeur de’ Alene, Idaho and William D., now in the U.S. Army, stationed at Alexandria, La.; a daughter, Mrs. Mel (Katherine) Stroh of Sioux City; a brother, Frank Koontz of Onawa; a sister, Mrs. Nellie Folwell of Whiting; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother George, and a sister, Anna Clark King.

He was a member of Moose Lodge and the Eagles Lodge of Sioux City, and a former member of the I.O.O.F. at Onawa.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 21 at the W. Harry Christy funeral home in Morningside. Rev. Harvey Stokes officiated. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sioux City.

Pallbearers were Charles McDonough, Leo Sponder, Floyd Stokes, A. “Bud” Mildenberger, Carl Blixt and Joe Mildenberger.
