Castana, Iowa—Charles Ernest Riddle, 53, of Wheatridge, Colo., a Castana native, died April 30 of an apparent heart attack while working for the Denver Post Office.

Services will be May 3 at the Howard Mortuary in Denver. Local services will be at 10:30 a.m. May 4 at the Christian Church in Ute. The Rev. Keith Hair of Ute and the Rev. Wendall Sack of the Broomfield (Colo) Christian Church will officiate. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute under direction of the Walter Funeral Home at Mapleton. Masonic services will be at 7:00 p.m. May 4 at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted at graveside by Grimsely-Thayer Post 502, American Legion of Castana.

Mr. Riddle was born November 19, 1922, in Ute. He farmed in the Castana-Ute area for many years. He also was a substitute mail carrier in Castana and worked for several years at the Warren Electric and TV shop at Ute as an electrician. Mr. Riddle moved to Colorado three years ago where he worked as an electrician and most recently with the U.S. Postal Service.

He was a deacon of the Bloomfield Christian Church, a veteran of World War II, a member of the American Legion past commander of Post 502, past commander of the Monona County Legion and past vice-commander of Iowa’s 9th District of the American Legion.

He also was a member of the VFW at Ute, Hillcrest Masonic Lodge 648 at Castana, the Scottish Rite Bodies at Sioux City, and Abu Bekr Shrine Temple at Sioux City.

He married Rosalie McKelvey July 21, 1946, in Ute.

Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Kaye (Carol) Wilen of Alexandria, La: two sons, Marvin of San Bernardino and Bruce of Mexico Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Brady Riddle of Excelsior Springs, Mo; two sisters, Mrs. Elvin (Hazel) Hanson of Castana and Mrs. Neva Olson of Douglas, Ariz.; three brothers, Loren of Castana, Myron of Hartington, Neb., and Leonard of Excelsior Springs.
