Charles Riddle Buried SaturdayCharles (Charley) Riddle, 79, well known retired farmer of the Soldier and Ute vicinities, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.C. Knutson northwest of Soldier last Thursday. Mr. Riddle was a familiar character over the county and was well known by most everyone.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 6 at 2:00 p.m. at the Christian Church in Ute with Pastor Elmer Hodge officiating. Burial was in the St. Clair Cemetery under the direction of Oldham Funeral Home of Soldier. Pallbearers were Floyd Shipley, Clarence Thompson, Jim Flyn, Grover Sander, Harold Longlee and Harry Sharp.
Charles E. Riddle was born August 7, 1875 near Caldwell, Ohio. He departed from this life at 3:45 a.m. August 4, 1955 at the home of his daughter near Soldier at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 28 days.
He grew to manhood in Noble County, Ohio and was united in marriage to Anna Moore, May 16, 1894. To this union seven children were born. He and his wife and four children moved to the Ute community in 1901, where he was engaged in farming between Ute and Soldier. They moved into town in 1945 where he lived until he suffered a light stroke. Since May 1, 1954 he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. W.C. Knutson.
Mr. Riddle united with the Christian Church in Ute June 20, 1947.
He was preceded in death by his wife on October 20, 1945; one son, Walton in infancy; one daughter, Mrs. Blanche Cunningham in 1941, also one grandson and one great- grandson.
He leaves to mourn his passing three daughters; Bertha Conger of The Dalles Oregon; Gladys Allen; Kodiak, Alaska; Mary Knutson, Soldier, Iowa and two sons, Brady C. Riddle and Fred A. Riddle, both of Ute; one sister, Mary Bates of Zanesville, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and one great great grandchildren as well as many other relatives and friends.
