Donald E. Riddle, former Onawa resident, died December 20 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after a relatively short illness.

Visitation services were held at his home, on Saturday afternoon for friends and family. He had requested no funeral service.

Donald was born May 6, 1929 at Smithland, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ingersoll Riddle. He attended grade school at Rodney and high school in Onawa graduating with the class of 1947. He subsequently attended Grinnell College and the University of Iowa receiving his BA Degree in 1957. A tour of duty in the Air Force from May 1951 to August 1955 as radar observer took him to Texas, Florida, Georgia, Delaware, Maine and Greenland. He married Barbara L Clifford December 27, 1952.

Mr. Riddle was employed by the U.S. Geological Survey in Iowa City until his retirement several years ago.

He had many hobbies which he shared with his family and friends, loving all aspects of nature, he became an avid photographer. A number of his prints are displayed in the office where he worked and in the Denver office of Geological Survey. Traveling all of the United States, Alaska and Canada gave him great opportunity to expand his hobby.

Even this past summer and fall before entering the hospital for the third time many short trips were enjoyed around Iowa City, grandsons baseball games, Kalona Cheese factory, countryside picnics, the apple farm and yes, McDonalds, McRib Sandwiches-shared also with three of his sisters.

Survivors include his wife Barbara, a daughter Pamela and her husband Jim Smith and four grandsons, four sisters, Ruby I. Nelson of Inglewood, California, Pauline E. Stueland of Onawa; Eva L/ Plants of Ashland, Nebraska and Betty J. Ogle of Neosha, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ingersoll Riddle and two brothers, Ralph of Braddyville, Iowa and Robert of State College, Pennsylvania.
Arrangements were by Donohue Lensing in Iowa City. There will be a memorial interment service in the spring of 90.
