Matthew D. (Matt) Riddle, 97, of Tucson, Arizona died January 7. He and Mrs. Riddle had lived in Tucson the past several years.

Funeral services were held at Walter Chapel in Ute Tuesday at 10:30 with Pastor E.T. Lange in charge of the sermon. Interment was in St. Clair Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Fred Linke, George Klockgether, Herman Kiepe, Fred Mahler and Chris Gregerson. Active bearers were Herman Kowalke Jr., Marvin Kowalke, Rodney Lansman, James Flynn, Charles Swanson and E. W. Nun.

Mr. Riddle was born April 26, 1871 in Soldier Township and passed away at Tucson, Arizona January 7, at the age of 97 years, 8 months and 12 days.

He married Martha Hansen April 24, 1899 in Onawa. They farmed between Soldier and Ute most of their lives. Mr. Riddle became associated with the Ute State Bank nearly 60 years ago and served as president many years. He was honorary chairman at the time of his death.

He served as state representative from Monona County in the 1936-37 term. He was also a direction of the American Automobile Assn.

Survivors include the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Herman (Bernice) A. Kowalke of Kingsley and a son, Richard of Ute. There are five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
