Longtime resident of Mapleton Dies

Rose T. Milligan, age 97, of Mapleton, Iowa, died Monday, February 14, 2000 at McCook Lake, South Dakota.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 17 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Mapleton with Rev, David Hogan officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Mapleton. A vigil wake service was held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Rose Teresa Milligan was born June 27, 1902, at Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob and Mary (Graff) Gaul.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mapleton. Formerly, she was employed by Pelletier’s and Younkers in Sioux City, Iowa. She moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 1952 where she worked in ladies retail. She retired from Lerner’s in Omaha in 1967 and returned to Mapleton. She moved to the home of her nephew, James P. Gaul, 331 Lakeshore Drive, McCook Lake, South Dakota, September 8, 1999.

Rose is survived by 29 nieces and nephews, 56 great-nieces and nephews, 49 great-great- nieces and nephews and seven great-great-great niec3es and nephews. Local two nephews include James Gaul and his wife, Beverly of McCook Lake, South Dakota and Paul Koenigs and his wife, Bette of Mapleton and a local niece is Clara Conyers of Mapleton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Milligan June 11, 1965 and by two sisters and four brothers.

Pallbearers were Dave Koenigs, Jerry Koenigs, Lyle Weikel, Randy Gaul, Dale Gaul and Dave Sorenson.

Memorials that are sent to Hospice of Siouxland, 224 4th Street, Sioux City, Iowa 51101 in Rose’s name will be greatly appreciated.
