10 February 2000Mapleton, Iowa—Wayne Kenneth Weikel, 66, of Mapleton died Wednesday, February 2, 2000, at a Ventura, California hospital following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, with the Rev. Shirley Textor officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Loren Hollister Post 496 of Mapleton. There will be no visitation.
Mr. Weikel was born April 28, 1933, in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Lloyd and Ruby (Folsom) Weikel. He was raised on a farm near Hornick, Iowa, and graduated from Hornick High School in 1951. He attended Morningside College in Sioux City and the University of Iowa.
He married Kathleen Siglin. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. He later married Ruthanne McManis. She died in 1991.
He was employed as an IBM database analyst and authored several IBM technical manuals for IMS and also served as an IMS technical expert. He was also employed in BMC software as a product developer for IMS database logging software. He worked in SQL product development for Tandem Computers. He moved to Mapleton in March 1997.
He was a member of United Methodist Church in Hornick.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, David and Linda of Atlantic and Douglas and Kathy of Aurora, Colo.; two daughters, Samantha Johnstone of Mapleton and Diana and her husband, Dion Hasson of Littleton, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; his mother of Mapleton; three brothers, Lyle of Mapleton, Rex and his wife, Beberly of Sloan, Iowa, and Gary and his wife, Valery of Sioux City; and a sister and her husband, Marlene and Victor Siglin of Hernando, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his father and an infant daughter, Cindy.
