MAPLETON, Iowa -- Marie Muckey, 86, of Mapleton passed away Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Dr. Scott Fiege officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Marie was born to Herman Jurgen and Marie Christina (Matzen) Rickert, on the family farm in Cooper Township, Monona County, Iowa, on Jan. 10, 1920. She attended school through the eighth grade.

On Nov. 30, 1947, she was united in marriage to Harvey T. Muckey in Mapleton. The couple made their home in Mapleton, where they raised their four children. Harvey died Dec. 22, 1976.

A life-long Mapleton resident and member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, she was very active and dedicated to her church. She was a member of the Ladies Aid for 10 years, taught Sunday School for 20 years and was the superintendent for Vacation Bible School for 12 years. She shared her culinary skills with the staff and students at Maple Valley High School for 13 years before retiring. She loved quilting, embroidering and solving crosswords. She immensely enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory in God's grace are two sons, Dennis of Mapleton and Tom and his wife, Kathy, of Denison, Iowa; two daughters, Betty Weikel of Sergeant Bluff and Karen and her husband, Jeff Krusen, of Mapleton; a sister, Gertie Antweiler of Evergreen, Colo.; two sisters-in-law, Esther Rickert of Mapleton and Elaine Rickert of Denison, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her cat, Bootsie; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Marie; her husband of 29 years, Harvey; her godchild, Jeffrey Rickert; a nephew, Larry Bockelman; two brothers, Walter and Albin Rickert; a sister and her husband, Lydia and Elmer Bockelman; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Muckey; a brother-in-law, Irving Antweiler; and a son-in-law, Charles Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials.
