Ute, Iowa—Harry L. Riddle, 76, of Seattle, formerly of Ute died Saturday, December 18, 1999, in Seattle.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Aaby Post 442 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5605, both of Ute. There will be no visitation.

Mr. Riddle was a veteran of World War II and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5605.

Survivors include his wife, Rita; three stepchildren, Aliceann, Andrew and Allen; a brother, Clifford of Alabama; three sisters, Maxine Nystrom of Minneapolis, Joyce Dethlefs of Sioux City and Shirley Hopp of Charter Oak, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ethel Riddle.

Former Ute resident dies in Washington state December 18

Harry L. Riddle, age 76, of Seattle, Washington, and formerly of Ute died Saturday, December 18, 1999, in Seattle.

Memorial services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2000, at Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute. Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Aaby Post #442 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5605, both of Ute.

Harry was born November 17, 1923 to Fred and Ethel (Schlensig) Riddle. He had one brother and three sisters. He grew up on a farm in Monona County and graduated with the Ute High School class of 1941.

He was a member of the basketball team while in high school.

Harry moved to Bremerton, Washington and worked in the Navy Yards until going into the Army in 1943. After the war he had a blacksmith in Ute for two years, then moved to Seattle and worked in the shipyards until retirement. In 1967 he married Rita Ryan.

Harry was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5605 of Ute. He spent his leisure time fishing, traveling and attending sports events.

The last three years he lived in Harmony Gardens Care Center in Seattle, Washington.

He is survived by his wife, Rita; three step-grandchildren, Aliceann, Andrew and Allan; one brother, Clifford of Alabama; three sisters, Maxine Nystrom of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Joyce Dethlefs of Sioux City, Iowa and Shirley Hopp of Charter Oak, Iowa, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents.
