Former Ute resident dies in Correctionville
Irene E. Newell, age 76, of Correctionville and formerly of Ute, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 11, 2000 in Correctionville.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 17, 2000 at Church of Christ in Anthon., with Pastor Elmer Hodge officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Madge Petersen was the pianist for the service and the congregation sang, “The Old Rugged Cross”. A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.

Irene Eldora Newell was born May 12, 1923, at Ute, Iowa, the daughter of Oath and Laura (Crum) Newman. She was raised in the Anthon area. Following her marriage to Edward Newell on September 1, 1944 in Sioux City, Iowa, she and her husband lived in Iowa and Kansas. Irene was a devoted wife and mother. Edward passed away December 2, 1983.

She was a member of the Church of Christ in Anthon.

Those survivors left to cherish Irene’s memory include her mother, Laura Newman of Correctionville, Iowa; two sons, Gerald of Anthon, Iowa and Keith and his wife, Deborah of San Diego, California; a daughter, Laura Reinke and her husband, Jim of Sublette, Kansas; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, along with other relatives, neighbors and good friends.

Along with her husband, Irene was preceded in death by her father and four brothers.

Pallbearers were Dennis Carlson, Dale Newman, Ron Newman, Dean Newman, Dwight Newman and Paul Newell.
