Mapleton, Iowa—Lola Wilhelmina Wasmund, 87, of Mapleton died Saturday, January 29, 2000 at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Mapleton, with the Rev Scott Fiege officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mrs. Wasmund was born August 17, 1912, at Alta, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Lydia (Lichtenberg) Schuelke. She was baptized on September 8, 1912 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hanover, Iowa and confirmed on March 28, 1926. She grew up and was educated in the Alta area and went to work in the Orphan Home in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

She married Conrad Wasmund on August 24, 1949 at Mapleton. The couple farmed in the Mapleton area. Her husband died on November 25, 1968. She moved into Mapleton on November of 1969 and entered Maple Heights Nursing Home in April of 1993.

She was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, where she was also a member of L W M L and the Lamplighters and she quilted with the ladies for donation to those in need. She also volunteered to teach Bible School and Weekday School to the children at the church.

She enjoyed sewing and baking.

Survivors include three sons. Gerald and his wife, Jane, of Key Largo, Fla., Don of Omaha, and Duane and his wife, Martha, of Onawa, Iowa; two daughters, Eileen Ward of Panama City, Florida and Sharon and her husband. John Hollister, of Des Moines; 14 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; three brothers, Wilbert Schuelke of Alta, Henry Schuelke Jr. of Storm Lake, Iowa and Leo Schuelke of Des Moines; four sisters, Cora Schuelke of Storm Lake, Verna Kraemer of Alta and Esther Shoning and Marian Bennett, both of Des Moines; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Schuelke; and a sister, Hulda Schuelke.
