Onawa, Iowa—Joseph H. Schafer, 60, of Onawa died Thursday, January 27, 2000 at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Donald R. Ludwick officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Mr. Schafer was born December 11, 1939 in Schuyler, Nebr., the son of Joseph H. and Katie (Baldwin) Schafer. He attended various schools in the United States, while moving with his father’s business.

He married Doris Clapper on March 16, 1968, in Columbus, Nebr. The couple moved to Onawa in 1983, where he operated Schafer’s Plumbing.

He attended the Lutheran church in his youth and enjoyed flea markets.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Teresa and Steve Stillman and Betty and Jesse McCullock, all of Onawa; a son, Jody and his fiancé, Leticia Hall, both of Onawa; six grandchildren, Penny, Chelsea, Zach, Nicholas, Betsy and Faith; his mother of Columbus, Nebr. a brother and his wife, Larry “Cotton” and Linda of Northboro, Mass.; four sisters, Lorraine Barton of Columbus, Katie Mindrup of Houston, Texas, Hylah and her husband, Michael Robbins of Seward, Nebr. and Letta and her husband, Kevin Taylor of Kearney, Nebr. and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, an infant daughter, Penny; and a brother, Herbert.
