Marion Olson Rites Held Here
Marion E. (Dusty) Olson, a resident of the Soldier community during his boyhood days, died unexpectedly at a Sioux City hospital Thursday, July 18. He had entered the hospital on Monday. He had been a resident of Sioux City for several years where he was employed by the Johnson Furniture Co. For a number of years he was a member of the musical group known as the Son’s of the Sage and the group was heard often over station KTRI.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday at the Soldier Lutheran church with Pastor John Carlson of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Onawa officiating. Mrs. Norman C. Hanson sang “Safe In The Arms of Jesus” and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”, accompanied by Miss Jean Amunson at the organ. Casket bearers were Adrian Dean, Loren Olson, Oliver and Edwin Erickson, Don Dale and LeRoy Anderson. Interment was in Soldier Valley cemetery with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home.
Marion E. Olson was born June 22, 1927 at Ute, Iowa and passed from this life at a hospital in Sioux City on Thursday, July 18, 1963 at the age of 36 years and 26 days. He was the son of Knute and Tillie Olson.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Soldier. He was united in marriage to Bonnie B. Hammer and to this union one daughter was born, Debra Kay, who also resides in Sioux City. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Tillie Olson of Ute, along with a number of other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1937.
