Olaf T. Olson, Onawa, Iowa, died at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa on December 27, 1983, following a brief illness. Prior to moving to Onawa in October 1983, he was a lifelong resident of Soldier, Iowa.

He was born near Soldier on March 11, 1897, the son of Arne and Dorthea Bakkine Olson. He married Ethel Harris at Denison, Iowa, on November 28, 1923. He worked for the Jordan Valley Telephone Co. for 16 years and owned and operated Olson’s Electric in Soldier for 30 years.

Olaf was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church where he served as a trustee. He was a member of the Soldier School Board and the Monona County Conservation Board. He was a former mayor of Soldier.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel of Onawa; two sons, Robert of Berthoud, Colo. and James of Onawa; one sister, Mrs. William (Tina) Murray of Sioux City, Iowa; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and ten brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 30, 1983, at Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier, Iowa, with Rev. Larry Sydow officiating. The organist was Mrs. Leonard Jensen and the Men’s Quartet, consisting of Jim Severson, Gordon Swenson, Gene Brenden, and Gordon Foss, sang “Oh Master, Let Me Walk With Thee” and “The Old Rugged Cross”.

Casket bearers were Lloyd Olson, Bernard Thoreson, Vernon Olson, Bruce Olson, Doug Olson and Jeff Swenson.

Interment was in the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home. Soldier, Iowa.
