Mrs. Olive Thomson Passed Away Saturday

Olive Erica, daughter of Erica and Olof Leff, was born at Cambridge, Henry County, Illinois, February 15, 1876. At the age of six she moved with her parents to Monona County, Iowa, where she lived for the rest of her life.

On March 8, 1899 she was united in marriage to Peter Thomson at the home of her parents south of Turin. The couple lived on a farm near Turin for three years, then moved to a farm in Kennebec Township, where they lived for more than fifty years, Mr. Thomson died July 22, 1953, and Mrs. Thomson moved to Onawa in 1955. It was at her home in Onawa that she passed quietly away on May 18, 1957.

Five children were born to this union, a daughter, Velma, died at the age of nine months and a son, Gerald, passed away at the age of thirty-seven years. Survivors are three sons, Albert of Elk Point, South Dakota, Vernon and Vinton of Colorado Springs. Other survivors include two sisters, Jo, Mrs. Howard Reese of Turin and Elsie, Mrs. Ivy Cork of Page, Nebraska; one brother, Osacar Leff of Turin; three grandsons, three granddaughters; five great-grandchildren, many other relatives and a host of friends.

Mrs. Thomson was a member of the Methodist Church and W.S.C.S. of Ticonic, the Grant Cemetery Society, the Rebekah Lodge of Castana, the Danish Sisterhood of Turin and the Erskine Community Club of Ticonic.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at the Ticonic, Iowa Methodist Church with Rev. Henry Muller of Sioux City officiating. Evans Davies sang “Beyond the Sunset” and “Some Day We’ll Understand” accompanied by Mrs. Hansen Davies.

Pallbearers were Warren Heisler, Roy Anderson, Charlie Larson, Evans Woodward, Russell Woodward and Bud Hall. Burial was in the Belvidere Cemetery at Turin, Iowa under the direction of the Pearson Funeral Home.
