20 March 2002Elsie May Fritz, 84, of Whiting, Iowa and formerly of Onawa, Iowa died Wednesday, February 6, 2002 at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
Elsie was born at Castana, Iowa on June 7, 1917 to Arthur and Agnes (Ultsch) Davis. She attended rural schools through the eighth grade. She was born and grew up on the Davis family farm which she and her husband, Alvin, later purchased. They farmed and raised their family on this farm until retiring in 1976. She married Alvin William Fritz on September 5, 1937. To this union five children were born. Alvin passed away on March 25, 1978. Following her husband’s death Elsie moved to Onawa, later moving into Center Heights where she lived for twelve years. She had moved to Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa, on October 4, 2001.
Elsie was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved preparing family dinners and taking care of her grandchildren. She enjoyed baking, especially her dinner rolls, also known as Grandma’s rolls.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Kay Fritz of Hinton, Iowa; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Denny Mason of Abilene, Kansas and Sandra and Allen Hansohn of Denison, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; a sister, Rosetta Block of Castana, Iowa and two brothers, Roger Davis and his wife, Joyce of Ida Grove, Iowa and Wilbur Davis of Oventon, Nebraska.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Barbara Fritz; a daughter in infancy, Agnes Elsie and two brothers Clarence and Leonard Davis.
Services were 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2002, at the Evangelical Free Church, Onawa, Iowa with Pastor David Montecuollo officiating. The organist was Mrs. Dwight Masters and the soloist was Mrs. Tim Peters. The selections were : “How Beautiful Heaven Must Be” and “Precious Lord, Take My Hand”. The congregational hymn was “How Great Thou Art.”
Honorary Bearers were Grandchildren, LuAnn Parsley, Dean Fritz, Kathy Fritz, Amy Fritz, Shari Weaver, Cindy Phillips, Michael Mason, Jennifer Hansohn, Brianna Hansohn and Beth Tymkowicz.
Casket bearers were Michael Fritz, David Fritz, Gary Fritz, Brian Fritz, Donald Fritz, Bill Prato, Denny Mason and Shane Tymkowicz.
Interment was in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
