24 February 1989Elizabeth M. Uhl, 73, 2509 Willow St. South Sioux City, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 1989, at her home of an apparent heart attack.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St Mary’s Catholic Church in Mapleton, Iowa, with the Rev John Brennan officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today with a rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. in the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton.
Mrs. Uhl, the former Elizabeth Flammang, was born Feb. 16, 1916, at Mapleton. She married Edward Uhl on Oct. 15, 1935 in Mapleton. The couple farmed near Bronson, Iowa for 10 years and then moved to Emerson, Neb., where they farmed for 12 years. They moved to James, Iowa where they farmed until their retirement in 1969. They lived in Sioux City for five years and moved to Salida, Colo. where they operated a restaurant for two years. Then they moved to Allen, Neb. where they lived for three years. In 1980 they moved to South Sioux City where she was presently working as a cook at Green Acres Nursing Home.
Mrs. Uhl was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in South Sioux City and the Alter Society of the church. She was a member of Gasser Post 5435, VFW Auxiliary of Martinburg, Neb.
Survivors include her husband; six sons, Paul of Arvada, Colo., Edward Jr. of Boulder, Colo., Gary of Woodstock, Ill., Carl of Thornton, Colo., and Jeff and Denny, both of South Sioux City; four daughters, Mrs. John (Jean) Cole of Jefferson, S.D., Mrs. Darry (Audra) Hindman of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mrs. Barry (Carol) Henning of Wheatridge, Colo., and Mrs. Rocky (Janet) Bohlke of South Sioux City, three brothers, Matthew and Edgar Flammang, both of Sioux City and Jerome Flammang of Westminster, Colo.; four sisters, Mrs. Bud (Monica) Smith of Sioux City, Mrs. Mary Gormally of Fort Collins, Colo., Mrs. Donald (Rita) Ferdig of Longmont, Colo., and Mrs. William (Teresa) Sachau of Allen, Neb; 36 grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren.
