Mercedes E. Uhl, age 84, of Danbury, died Friday, February 16, 1990, at the Ida Grove hospital.

Services were at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 19, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Danbury, with the Rev. James Tigges officiating and con-celebrant was Rev. Gerald Zensen. Mass servers were Dan Schoenfeld and Heath Hargens. Lecturers were Karla Treiber and Lynne Friedrichsen. The message in music was by the church choir, accompanied by Bonita Kane. Burial was at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Mapleton. Visitation began at 2:00 p.m. Sunday with a Rosary Society rosary at 3:00 p.m. and a parish rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton. Further visitation was held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until service time Monday.

Mrs. Uhl, the former Mercedes Elizabeth Reinbold, was born April 13, 1905 to Leopold and Bertha (Koll) Reinbold at Mapleton. She married Clifford Uhl Sr. January 19, 1925, at Mapleton. They farmed in the Mapleton and Danbury community, retiring and moving in to Danbury in 1959. Mr. Uhl died October 5, 1977.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Danbury, the Rosary Society, a Gold Star Mother, the American Legion Auxiliary (Loren Hollister Post 496 in Mapleton).

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Robert; a brother, two sisters, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Elaine) Collins of Mapleton, Mrs. Douglas (Joan) Glassel of Coralville, Mrs. Raymond (LaVonne) Friedrichsen of Danbury, Mrs. John (Colleen) Tjaden of Iowa Falls and Mrs. Dick (Sharon) Juelfs of Cushing; three sons and daughter-in-law, Alan and Lisa of Douglaston, New York, Kenneth and Dorothy of Valencia, California and Clifford Jr. and Mary of Oto; three sisters Mrs. Archie (Olive) Harrell, Mrs. Violet Challis and Mrs. DeVota Meroney all of Spring Hill, Florida; 38 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Nale Uhl, Michael Friedrichsen, Steven Friedrichsen, Larry Schoenfeld, Brent Juelfs and John Glassel.
