30 April 2009Leo Duane Chandler was born August 6, 1937 on a farm between Castana and Mapleton, Iowa. He died April 20, 2009 at the age of 71. Funeral services were held on Friday, April 24, at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton with Rev. Dr. Scott Fiege officiating. Message in the music was provided by Julie Hamann organist. Songs included “ In The Garden” and “On Eagle’s Wings”. Interment was in the Harrison Cemetery in Whiting, Iowa.
Leo was the son of Leo Leslie and Alice Loraine (McClatchey) Chandler. He lived in Arizona and New Mexico until the age of 14, then moving to Missouri. At the age of 16 he entered the United States Army. He later moved back to the Mapleton area.
Survivors include eight children, Jeff and his wife Sherri of OIda Grove, Iowa, Laurie Richards and her husband Terry of Charter Oak, Iowa, Jack and his fiancée Pearl of Denison, Iowa, Melissa Rodgers and her husband Jim of Cherokee, Iowa, Pete of Carroll, Iowa, Misty Lutz and her husband Jon of Muscatine, Iowa. Hiedi Weber and her husband Jason of Yankton, South Dakota and Adam and his fiancée Tara Lueth if Missouri Valley, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives Vernon and Martha of Sierra Vista, Arizona and Jim and Bobbie of Forsyth, Montana; three sisters Genevie Hamilton and her husband John of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Evon Blakely of Rodney, Iowa and Gloria Torres of Mesa, Arizona.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Alton Eugene Chandler and one son James Albert Chandler. Arrangements were under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home.
