ONAWA, Iowa -- Betty M. Boehme, 82, of Sergeant Bluff, formerly of Onawa, passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at Embassy Care Center in Sergeant Bluff.

Abiding by her wishes, private family services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Betty was born Oct. 26, 1927, in rural Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of Chris and Anna (Nelsen) Nelsen. She was raised in rural Mapleton and enjoyed the farm life with her parents. She moved to Onawa in 1947.

Betty and Virgil Boehme were united in marriage on Oct. 27, 1952. The couple made their home in Sioux City, where they raised their twin daughters and enjoyed camping and fishing until Virgil's death in 1980.

Dear to her heart was the enjoyment shared with her "Embassy family" the last few years of her life.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Eileen and Winston Belfrage of Sergeant Bluff; three grandchildren, Jeannie (Jesse) English of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Becky (Jim) Curry of Des Moines and Jeff (Heather) Gann of Arthur, Iowa; and six great-grandchildren, Abbey English, Jenna and Ryan Curry and Jolie, Devin and Hope Gann.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Barbara Jean Boehme; and a daughter, Arlene Ann Boehme in 2004.
