Kimberly Kay “Kim” Chapman, 47, Whiting, Iowa died suddenly Sunday, April 12, 2009.
A memorial service was held 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2009 at Rush Family Chapel at Onawa, Iowa with Scott Hillen officiating. Burial will be at a later date. There will be no visitation.
Kimberly Kay Chapman was born July 24, 1961 at Greeley, Colorado, the daughter of Jerome “PeeWee” and Gladys (Frei) Mordhorst. The family moved to the Charter Oak/Ute area where Kim was raised. She graduated from Charter Oak-Ute High School in 1979 and attended Wayne State College.
Kim and James “Jim” Chapman were united in marriage August 1, 1982 at Wayne, Nebraska. She was employed at Social Services in Wayne and several years at Stangel Pharmacy until ill health forced her retirement.
She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church at Ute. She was active with 4-H during her youth. Kim was always known to have a green thumb and enjoyed caring for her flowers. She also was a terrific crafter.
Survivors include her husband Jim of Whiting; a son and his fiancé, Brady and Taylor of Charter Oak; a daughter Kelsey Chapman of Ft. Madison, Iowa; a granddaughter, Aurora Mae Dunn; her father and his wife, Jerome “PeeWee” and Roseanne Mordhorst of Ute; a brother and his wife, Jeff and Laurie Mordhorst of Ute; a sister and her husband, Joann and Tom Laymon of Missouri Valley, Iowa and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys; an infant sister, Louise Helen; her grandparents, Herb and Helen Mordhorst and Ludwig and Louise Frei and her father and mother-in-law, Rex and Ruth Chapman.
