Robert Dreher, 74, of DesMoines, died on May 25, 2009 after he lost his battle against ALS, Lou Gehrigs disease.

Mr. Dreher will be remembered by many in the Maple Valley School area as a former band teacher. He was at Maple Valley from 1968 to 1975. When Mr. Dreher came to Mapleton the band numbered about 35. He built the program to become a marching band of over 100 plus there was the concert band and Jass band.

In 1973 the band traveled to Winnapeg, Canada and participated in the Red River Valley Festival. They brought home the first place trophy from this event.

Bonita Kane remembers Mr. Dreher was a music perfectionist that insisted on perfection from his students. This led to many awards and trophies for the band.

Mr. Dreher was also interested in photography and started his own Dreher Photography in Mapleton in 1969. He began working from his home and later had a store front on Main Street in Mapleton. He took many wedding pictures in the area. He closed his photography business in 1975.
