3 November 1983Leonard J. Banta, Rodney, Iowa died on October 24, 1983 in Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa following a long illness. Death came at the age of 54 years 5 months and 15 days.
He was born at Anthon, Iowa on May 9, 1929, the son of Clyde and Mary Schuh Banta. He served in the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1952. He married Alma Heinse, Nov. 16, 1960, at South Sioux City, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Rodney. He was a truck driver.
He was a member of Leslie F. Seaton Post No. 666, American Legion of Smithland, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Alma of Rodney, his mother, Mary C. Banta of Sioux City, Iowa and two brothers, John W. Banta and Clyde Banta, both of Sioux City. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Carl J Banta.
A Funeral Mass was held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 27, 1983 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Oto, Iowa, with Father Gerald Zenson officiating.
Bearers were Walter Muckey, Roger James Yockey, Max Smith, Lee Ford and James Davis.
Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery at Anthon, Iowa.
