Joyce Blackman, 88, of Norfolk, Neb., formerly of Blencoe, Iowa passed away Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at Heritage of Bel Air in Norfolk.

Joyce was born Sept. 12, 1921, on the family farm near Magnolia, Iowa, the daughter of Burt and Minnie (Wiederholz) Niles. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Magnolia High School.

Joyce and Noel "Bus" Blackman were united in marriage on Aug. 1, 1940. The couple made their home on a farm near Blencoe until their retirement, when they moved into Blencoe. Bus passed away in 1997. Joyce moved to Norfolk several years ago to be closer to two of her sons and their families.

Joyce loved to dance. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and Milky Way candy bars. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Gerald "Jerry" and Judy of Norfolk, Larry and Ann of Norfolk and Terry and Colleen of Hollister, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; and a sister.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa with Dr. Richard Brown officiating. Music selection were “Wind Beneath My Wings” and “Amazing Grace” with Darren Goslar, solist and Deb Lauritsen, organist. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery, Moorhead, Iowa.

Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Casket bearers were Curt, Tyler, Wade and Colby Blackman and Troy and Dustin Hall.
