FORT DODGE, Iowa -- Gertrude E. Pencook, 91, of Fort Dodge passed away Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Gertrude was born in Audubon County, Iowa, on Dec. 23, 1917, to Christian and Rosa (Deist) Mack. She grew up on the family farm.

She married the Rev. Everett Pencook on May 19, 1938, in Ross, Iowa. They served many Methodist Churches over the years. They moved to Fort Dodge upon retirement from the Gowrie and Callendar (Iowa) Methodist Churches in 1983.

She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Ruth Circle. She was an excellent cook and baker. She also enjoyed gardening.

She is survived by her daughters, Ruth (Jack) Jordan of Turin, Iowa, Carol (Jack) Werner of Washington, D.C., and Sandra (Dean) McGrew of Fort Dodge; her grandchildren, James (Jodie) Jordan of Lyon, Neb., Tanya McGrew of Fort Dodge and Rachel (Nicholas) Frisbie of Coon Rapids, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Yolonda Jordan and Liam Frisbie; her sister, Ruby Olsen of Exira, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Ethel Mack of Audubon, Iowa; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everett; a brother, Floyd Mack; and a sister, Ione McPherson.
