PONCA, Neb. -- Barbara A. (Gibbs) Meyers, 57, of rural Ponca passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at her residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Newcastle, Neb., with the Rev. David Liewer officiating. Burial will be in Silver Ridge Cemetery, rural Ponca. Condolences may be sent online to www.mohrfuneralhome.com .

Barbara Ann Gibbs was born in Mapleton, Iowa, on July 27, 1951, to Ervin and Grace (Hughes) Gibbs. She was raised on a farm south of Ute, Iowa, and graduated from Charter Oak-Ute Community School in 1969. She attended Nettleton Business Training College in Sioux City.

She married John Woodard in June 1970, in Ute. They later divorced.

She worked at Sioux Tools Inc. in Sioux City, starting in the bookkeeping department and advancing to the sales order desk and finally the first woman industrial engineer in the company. There she met Aaron Meyers. They were married June 16, 1979, in Newcastle. They "retired" from Sioux Tools to the family farm south of Newcastle for the "good life" and a good place to raise their boys.

Over the years, she worked at the Newcastle Public School, Dixon County Farm Service Agency, Ivadell Burcham Real Estate and the NRCS Ponca field office. Jobs she loved because of the people she worked with and the people she met. But her most important job, and the one that brought her the most joy, was that of wife, mom and grandma.

She is survived by her husband of almost 30 years, Aaron of Ponca; two sons, John Woodard Jr. and his wife, Janyce of Homer, Neb., and Michael Meyers of Newcastle; three grandchildren, Connor and Bryanna Woodard of Homer and Dillon Woodard of Hawarden, Iowa; a sister, Georgia and her husband, Rick Harm of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a brother, Wayne Gibbs of Ames, Iowa; and a niece, Angie and her husband, Scott Jones of Sioux Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and grandparents, Solon and Anna Gibbs and George and Mae Hughes.
