MAGNOLIA, Iowa -- Vince E. Hieber, 58, of Magnolia, Iowa was born April 17, 1951 in Mapleton. He died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 58. A memorial service was held Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa, with the Rev. Dr. Scott Fiege officiating. Message in the music was “Hid In Christ”, “Because You Are” and “When I Get Home”. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Loren Hollister Post 496 of Mapleton.

Vince E. Hieber was born April 17, 1951, in Mapleton, Iowa, the son of Edgar "Unk" and Juanita (Schoenherr) Hieber. The family moved to Battle Creek, Iowa, and later to Blencoe, Iowa, where Vince”s parent's operated the grocery store. He graduated from West Monona High School and went on to serve his country with the U.S. Navy, doing two tours during the Vietnam War. His life's work was welding professionally.

Survivors include one daughter, Sherri Hieber and her husband, Mark Racobs of Mondamin, Iowa; one son, Joseph Carbaugh and his wife, Cynthia Rodrigus, both stationed with the U.S. Army at Fort Campbell, Ky.; his companion and close friend, Wanda Hogue of Magnolia, Iowa; three grandchildren, Kayla, Miranda and Angela Racobs; two sisters, Nancy Albers and her husband, Roger of Mapleton and Joan Chandler of Castana, Iowa; and one sister-in-law, Wanda Hieber of Castana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jack killed in Vietnam on July 27, 1966, and Larry who died Sept. 28, 2008.
