Ernest R. “Chuck” Waddell, 85, of Aurora, Co. formerly of Mapleton, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 23, 2008.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 31 at Aurora Chase Mortuary.1095 Havana St., Aurora, Co. Burial was at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Co. Visitation was at the Mortuary on Tuesday evening, December 30th from 4 to 7 p.m.

Ernest was born April 2, 1923 in Danbury, Iowa, the son of Ray and Francis Fisher Waddell. He graduated from Danbury High School in 1942. He retired from the U.S. Army having served in WW II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam.

Ernest also served as a civil servant in the Optical Lab at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Hospital. He was the recipient of many Army honors, including a Bronze Star.

Ernest was married to Evelyn Davis of Mapleton, Iowa in 1946. They had one daughter, Beverly. They later divorced and he married Beverly (Jo) Johansen of Sioux Falls, SD in 1951.

Survivors of Ernest Waddell include his daughter, Beverly Nelson and her husband Ed Nelson of Sun Lakes, Az.; his grandson, Eddie Nelson of Phoenix, AZ.; his granddaughter, Carla Nelson; his great grandchildren, Robbie and Sarah Simmons and one great-great-grandchild, Jordyn Boone, all of Tempe, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and siblings, Warren Waddell and Marjorie Waddell Riley of Kingsley, Iowa.
