SOLDIER, Iowa -- Jackie A. Swenson, 77, of Soldier died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Soldier Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Meggan Manlove officiating. Burial will be in Soldier Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Steven Hetzel officiating, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service at Onawa.

Jacqueline Alice was born May 15, 1932, at Ute, Iowa, the daughter of John and Frances (Ellis) Dickinson. She was raised in the Soldier area and graduated from Soldier High School. Jackie worked at Younkers in Sioux City for a short time.

Jackie and Gordon Swenson were united in marriage Jan. 21, 1951, at Soldier Lutheran Church. The couple farmed and raised their children in rural Soldier.

She was a member of Soldier Lutheran Church and WELCA. Jackie loved listening to music and knitting. She enjoyed her many friends and the many daily telephone conversations she had and above all the time spent with her family and dear grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Gordon of Soldier; three daughters, Laurie Swenson of Denison, Iowa, Jill and her husband Bill Hogancamp of Onawa and Mari and her husband Dwight Miller of Onawa; seven grandchildren, Gordon (Amy) Ehlers, Tami (Kirk) Buckley, Lucas Ehlers, Amy Hogancamp, Lindsay (Chuck) Blankman, Nick (Mindy) Holverson and Kira (Brandon) Jensen; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, John and Gaylene Dickinson of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Clayton and Dorothy Swenson and Ann Swenson all of Soldier.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jeff; and a brother-in-law, Maynard Swenson.
