ONAWA, Iowa -- Emily Carroll, 98, Onawa, died Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Rush Family Chapel, with Jacquelyn Girdner, Hospice Chaplain officiating. Burial will be in Center Cemetery in rural Castana, Iowa.

Emily Lois was born Aug. 30, 1911, at Castana, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore and Ethel (Murphy) Bouslaugh. She was raised in the Castana area. She was a cook at the Ida Grove Hospital, then the Onawa Hospital and later was a house parent at the Boys and Girls Home in Sioux City until her retirement.

Emily was a devoted daughter, mother and grandmother and will be remembered as an excellent cook.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy "Dottie" Clark of Westminster, Colo.; a son-in-law, Duane Hawthorn of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Coleen and Scot Costar of Westminster, James and Heddy Clark of Raleigh, N.C., Mary Beth Clark of Forest Park, Ill., Connie Hawthorn of Tampa Bay, Fla., and Susie and John Adams of Virginia Beach, Va.; and three great grandchildren, Emily, Cordell and Deanna Costar.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Hawthorn; a son-in-law, Donald Clark; two granddaughters, Barbara and Paulette Hawthorn; and two brothers, Nathan and Howard Bouslaugh.
