MAPLETON, Iowa -- Lavonne M. "Bonnie" Uhl, 83, of Mapleton died Sunday, May 10, 2009, at Indian Hills Hospice Wing in Sioux City.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Karen Garrison officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Lavonne Maxine Uhl was born Jan. 21, 1926, near Moorhead, Iowa, to Malinda (Thies) Chedester and Milo A. Chedester. She attended country school.

On Feb. 14, 1944, she married Darrel T. Uhl. He preceded her in death on April 8, 2001. She worked at LeFebvre's Drive Inn for 22 years.

She enjoyed her flowers, glass and crystal bead making and loved country music. She and her husband enjoyed many pets through the years. She loved cooking, canning and especially baking. She also loved having coffee with her friends and looked forward to all of her family being together for holiday gatherings. One of her proudest accomplishments was that she had made handmade quilts for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, until her health failed.

She is survived by her children, Judy (Gary) Golden of Sioux City, Ginice (Gary) Sturges of Hermosa, S.D., and Dan (Marcia) Uhl of Ogden, Iowa; grandchildren, Greg (Tina) Golden of Sioux City, Joddi (Todd) Mummert of Moville, Iowa, Marta Sturges of Vermillion, S.D., Jacob Sturges of Hermosa, Bryce Groth of Fort Hood, Texas, Brett (Mary-Ann) Groth of Nevada, Iowa, Adam Uhl of Ames, Iowa and friend, Emily Cooper and Celine Uhl of Ogden; great-grandchildren, Josh Winters of Springfield, Mo., Gaige and Jayli Golden of Sioux City, Kalie, Alex, Ben and Abbie Collins of Moville, Quinton Groth of Fort Hood, Alexis and Zoe Groth of Ponca, Neb., and Clarice Groth of Nevada; brothers, Vernon (Cathy) Chedester of Sioux City and Robert (Julianne) Chedester of Sioux City, sister, Shirley (Marlin) Gunderson of Kiron, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Esther Chedester of Sioux City, Norma (Robert) Michaelson of Sioux City, Betty (Bill) Cook of Ankeny, Iowa, Nancy (Keith) Myers of Grand Junction, Colo., and

Marjorie Uhl of Lincoln, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; her mother and father-in-law, Jenny and Ted Uhl; brothers, Elmer (Grace), Levi (Kay) and Merle Chedester; sisters, Izetta Coyle and Ardith Brenner; and a brother-in-law, Ted "Bood" Uhl.

The family wishes to remember her special friends, the late Bill Christensen of Mapleton, Judy Blume, Norma Mohr and Joe and Lois Christensen. We also extend our sincere thanks to Hospice of Siouxland, Midwest Health and staff and the loving staff of the Indian Hills Hospice Wing in Sioux City. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
