UTE, Iowa -- Teresa F. Shanahan, 87, of Ute died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak, Iowa, with the Rev. Richard Ball officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery in Ute. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today, with a vigil wake service at 7 p.m., at the church. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. Armstrong Funeral Home of Ute is in charge of arrangements.

Teresa Frances (Flynn) Shanahan was born May 6, 1914, on the family farm south of Ute, the daughter of Conn and Nellie (Hartigan) Flynn. She attended grade school at St. Boniface Catholic School in Charter Oak, and went on to graduate from Ute High School.

On Feb. 12, 1934, she was united in holy matrimony to Vincent Shanahan in Ute. The couple farmed one mile south of Ute. Vincent died Oct. 15, 1956. Teresa and her family stayed on the farm until 1963, when she sold it. She then purchased a home in Ute and was employed by West Central Development as a visitation worker for five years. She was employed in the cafeteria in the Ute Center of the Charter Oak-Ute School System for 18 years.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ute along with the Rosary Society. She also took an active role as a member of the Ute Senior Citizens.

Survivors include five daughters and their husbands, Peggy and Albert Rosenbaum of Elk Point, S.D., Kay and Orval Timm of Lexington, Neb., Connie and Ronald Langenfeld, and Clarita and Steve Butz, all of Ute, and Ellen Sue and Steve Graham of Mankato, Minn.; three sons, Jack Shanahan of Garden City, Kan., Gerald and his wife, Sandi Shanahan of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and Joel and his wife, Cathy Shanahan of Ute; 26 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives, neighbors and friends.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Daniel; a granddaughter, Mary Miller; four brothers, James, Cril, John and Paul; and two sisters, Marie McCann and Helen Flynn.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters.
