ONAWA, Iowa -- Everett F. Peasley, 78, of Onawa died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at his residence.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Onawa Cemetery, with the Rev. Donald Ludwick officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2694 of Monona County and a U.S. Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Everett was born Feb. 4, 1924, in Little Sioux, Iowa, the son of Floyd and Louise (Forsgren) Peasley. His family moved to Onawa when he was 9 months old, and he has been a lifelong resident. He joined the U.S. Army on Feb. 10, 1943, and served during World War II. He participated in many battles and campaigns including New Guinea, Northern Solomons and Luzon in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Star and the Purple Heart Medal. He was discharged Dec. 23, 1945.

Everett was the third generation of Peasley Trucking and trucked for 50 years, until his retirement.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2694 of Monona County, and American Legion NcNeill Post 129 of Onawa.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene of Onawa; a daughter and her husband, Patricia and Homer Wood of Onawa; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Mary Lue and Harlan Gahm of Garland, Neb.; and many other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Geneva Jacoby.
