WHITING, Iowa -- Mabel Friedrichs, 87, of Whiting died Monday, April 22, 2002, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. Steven Hetzel officiating. Burial will be in Whiting City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Mabel was born Dec. 25, 1914, in Remsen, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Wengler) Schroeder. She was raised in the Plymouth County, Iowa, area.

She was married to Didrick "Dick" Friedrichs on Sept. 11, 1937, in Le Mars, Iowa. The couple lived near Bronson, Iowa, and later in Whiting. Dick passed away Feb. 16, 1993, in Whiting.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. Her special enjoyment was working in her garden and also embroidering.

Survivors include four daughters, Marjorie Messenger and Dan Handschke of New London, Wis., Jeanette and her husband, Jim Franklin of White Salmon, Wash., Joyce and her husband, Bill Smith of Blair, Neb., and Betty and her husband, Bob Barto of South Sioux City; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Rolfes of Le Mars, Iowa.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, David; a granddaughter, Patti; three brothers; and three sisters.
