MAPLETON, Iowa -- Lawrence E. Bueoy, 76, of Mapleton died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. of complications during by-pass surgery.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Shirley Textor officiating. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, Castana, Iowa,. with military rites conducted by American Legion Loren Hollister Post 496 of Mapleton and Veterans of Foreign Wars Little Sioux Valley Post 9124 of Oto, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Lawrence Elmer Bueoy was born Nov. 22, 1925, in Monona County, near Mapleton, the son of Owen and Myrtle (Whites) Bueoy. He was baptized into the Methodist faith and was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton. As he grew up, he attended schools in Mapleton, Ute and Webster City, Iowa. At the age of 15, he began working on various farms. In 1948, he was drafted into the U.S. Army.

After boot camp, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Means on March 24, 1948, at St. John's United Methodist Church. He was stationed in Germany. After returning from overseas, having achieved the rank of sergeant, he joined the National Guard. They were activated and he was sent to Camp McCoy in Sparta, Wis. and onto the Korean War.

While in the service, he became the father of Pamela Bueoy on March 11, 1952. He returned home soon after that and worked for Garth Lacey and Wayne Davis. He then started farming for himself. He was also employed by Maple Valley School as a bus driver and a grounds keeper, retiring in 1997. Lawrence received a plaque from Dennis Webner, Maple Valley school superintendent, at the school board meeting on July 15, 1997, for driving a school bus for 35 and one-half years.

He was a member of American Legion Loren Hollister Post 496, Veterans of Foreign Wars Little Sioux Valley Post 9124 and Royal Neighbors of America.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of 53 years, Marjorie; a daughter, Pamela of Center Point, Iowa; three sisters, Mary McBride of Webster City, Iowa, Ardis Birchard and her husband, Harold, of Spencer, Iowa, and Illeen Clark of Humboldt, Iowa; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, a sister and just recently a brother-in-law.
