ONAWA, Iowa -- Mildred V. McDonald, 85, of Onawa died Thursday, April 25, 2002, at Burgess Health Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Castana Community Church with the Rev. Robert W. Fritzmeier officiating. Burial will be in Belvidere Cemetery, Turin, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Mrs. McDonald was born May 20, 1916, in Alta, Iowa, the daughter of August and Thora (Marcher) Fernstedt. She attended and graduated from Alta High School. She married Maynard McDonald on Feb. 18, 1939, in Elk Point, S.D. They moved to Castana in 1939 and lived there until 1954. In 1954 they moved to Greeley, Colo. She worked for many years as a clerk in grocery stores in Greeley. They returned to Onawa in 1990.

She enjoyed knitting and was a member of the Castana Thursday Club.

Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, Tim and Pam McDonald of Ft. Collins, Colo.; a daughter, Nancy Myers of Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren, Kurt and Kalli Myers, and Shannon and Molly McDonald; four great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Lathrop of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Ardis and her husband, Archie Lathrop of Lakewood, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother.

Pallbearers will be Howard Royalty, Jim Johnson, Roger Ehlers, Dennis Miller, Randy Madsen and Ronnie Burke. Honorary pallbearers will be Kurt Myers, Shannon McDonald, Kalli Myers and Molly McDonald.
