Mrs. Ernest (Mildred) Olson, lifelong resident of Sloan, Iowa died on August 26, 1983, in a Sioux City hospital at the age of 75 years. Five months and eight days.

The former Mildred Bon Durant was born at Sloan on March 18, 1908, to Isaac Sutton Bon Durant and Cora Bell Huddleston Bon Durant. She was married to Ernest Olson on May 16, 1936, at Sloan. The couple made their home on a farm near Sloan. She was a member of Skien Lutheran Church. She was the church organist for many years and was active in the church organizations.

Survivors are her husband, Ernest of Sloan, one son, Emil Olson of Arvada, Colo., one daughter, Mrs. Alan (Judith) Whisinnand of Natrona Heights, Penn; a sister, Miss Frances Bon Durant of Sloan and one brother, Hale Bon Durant of Sun City, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, William.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 29, 1983, at Skien Lutheran Church, Sloan, Iowa with Rev. Peter Boe officiating. Mrs. Jon Roarson, the organist, accompanied William Johnson who sang, “The Old Rugged Cross”

Bearers were Gordon Dahl, Frank Andrews, Tom Solien, Harley Thomas, Gordon Copple and Elliott Olson.

Interment was in Fairview Cemetery at Albaton with arrangements by the Wood Funeral Home of Sloan, Iowa.
