Last rites for Donald F. Olson, who died Sunday afternoon of injuries received in a plane crash, were held Wednesday afternoon at the Albaton Lutheran Church, with Rev. Nelson Preus officiating. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Smith Funeral home of Onawa. Assisting with the service was the American Legion post of Sloan.

Olson was a passenger in the plane, piloted by Franklin A. Elliott of Sioux City, when the craft crashed and burst into flames on the farm of Otis Hobbs, two miles northeast of Sloan. He was taken to the St. Joseph hospital in Sioux City where he died. Elliott the second victim of the accident, died early Monday morning.

Donald F Olson was born July 18, 1921 in Sioux City, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis J. Olson. Until entering the paratroopers, he resided in the vicinity of Albaton for the majority of his life.

He enjoyed the air corps in January, 1943 and was first stationed at Camp Roberts, California. Earlier he had been in the glider infantry service. He served at several camps throughout the country, including Salina, Kansas, Shepard Field, Texas, Fort Bragg, N.C. and Traux Field, Wisconsin. He received an honorable discharge January 11, 1946 at Scott Field, Illinois.

Surviving are the parents and a sister, Edna Jean at home. A brother, Clyde died in infancy.
