19 July 1990Leona Wacheldorf, age 90, of Mapleton died Wednesday, July 11, 1990, in a nursing home in Mapleton.
Services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Peter’s United Church of Christ at Mapleton with the Rev. Richard Hempenius officiating. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation was after 2:00 p.m. Friday with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. in the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton.
Mrs. Wacheldorf, the former Leona Jacobs was born April 28, 1900, in Mapleton, the daughter of Arnold and Julie (Kuehl) Jacobs. She married Emil Wacheldorf February 26, 1922 at Soldier Township, Crawford County, Iowa. The couple farmed in Mapleton, Danbury and Anthon vicinities. In 1946 they moved into Mapleton. She worked at Paramount Café, R&R Café and Home Café for many years. Mr. Wacheldorf died November 17, 1969. In 1984 she moved to Sioux City to make her home with her daughter. In 1990 she entered Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.
Mrs. Wacheldorf was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by his parents, husband, one sister, one brother and one great-grandson.
Survivors include four sons and their wives, Elmer and Margaret and Leonard and Darlene, all of Mapleton, Robert and Kathy of Sergeant Bluff and Richard and Sheri of Columbus, Nebraska; four daughters, Judy and her husband, Morris Riley of Mapleton, Phyllis and her husband, Richard Reinbold of Sioux City, Norma and her husband, Robert Marsh of Beemer, Nebraska and Delores Thiel of Mapleton; a brother, Earl of Mapleton, a sister, Gladys Compton of Woodbine; 29 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Greg Wacheldorf, Rick Wachelforf, Randy Wacheldorf, Dennis Wacheldorf, Rinald Wacheldorf, Mike Riley, Kevin Riley, Larry Riley, Kirk Thiel and Mark Riley.
