Elmer Wacheldorf, age 71, of Mapleton died Tuesday, May 24, 1994, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Walter Armstrong Chapel in Mapleton with Pastor Stephen Root officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Naomi Kahrs was the organist. A prayer service was held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Walter Armstrong Chapel.

Elmer was born September 14, 1922 at Cooper Township, Iowa, the son of Emil and Leona E. (Jacobs) Wacheldorf.

As a young man, he worked at Anthon, Iowa, as a farm laborer. On May 13, 1945, he married Margaret Means at Mapleton. For 16 years he worked for Reinbold Trucking and then worked for Clark Ready Mix for 23 years, semi retiring in 1988.

Elmer was an active member of the Mapleton Fire Department for 38 years.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret, a son and his wife, Rick and Kathy Wacheldorf of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; three daughters, Lynette Dobrovolny and Bonnie Wacheldorf, both of Mapleton and Marlene and her husband, Keith of Castana; three brothers and their wives, Leonard and Darlene Wacheldorf of Mapleton, Bob and Kathy Wacheldorf of Sergeant Bluff, and Dick and Sherry Wacheldorf of Columbus, Nebraska; three sisters, Judy Riley of Mapleton, Phyllis and her husband, Dick Reinbold of Sioux City and Norma and her husband, Bob Marsh of Beemer, Nebraska and seven grandchildren, Troy and his wife Tracey, Jennifer, Jodi, Brian, Ryan, Daniel and Stephanie.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Delores “Tootie” Thiel.

The honorary group was the Mapleton Fire Department.

Pallbearers were Mark Riley, Mike Riley, Kevin Riley, Kirk Thiel, Randy Wacheldorf and Denny Wacheldorf.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
