Marquis L Cartmill, 95, of Onawa, Iowa, died Friday, September 22, 2000 at Elmwood Care center in Onawa.

She was born February 15, 1905, in Doniphan, MO, the daughter of Robert L and Josie (Teeters) Hall and was raised by her maternal grandmother. In 1923, she married Ivel C. Scott in Missouri. He died in 1935. She married Lloyd W Cartmill in December 1947 in Onawa. He died in January 1979.

When she lived in Missouri, she was a very well known seamstress. In Onawa she owned and operated Cartmill's Ceramics until entering Elmwood Care Center in 1995. While living in Onawa, she also enjoyed many adventures that she had never known before, such as hunting, fishing, being part owner of a cabin in Canada, and her summer trips North.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Onawa, the Eagles Lodge, Order of Eastern Star, Onawa Women's Club, Onawa Business and Professional Women, Royal Neighbors of America, and Burgess Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by a daughter, LaWanda Ripberger of Adelaide, Australia; three step-children; various grandchildren; great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands; two sons, Ivel C Scott, Jr. and Ray Scott and two stepsons.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 25, 2000, at the First Christian Church, Onawa, Onawa, wth Pastor Donald R. Ludwick officiating.The organist was Mrs. Vince Phillips and the soloist, Mrs. Fred Gibson, sang, "In The Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross".

Casket Bearers were Dennis Lawrence, Lloyd Cartmill, Tom Templeton, Larry Clark, Ed Osius and Robert McCracken.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home and Cremation Service,Onawa.

Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church, Onawa.
