Onawa, Iowa-- James D. Olson, 70, of Onawa died of heart disease Monday, September 11, 2000 at his residence.

Private family services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, with the Rev. Frank Nemmers officiating. Burial will be in Onawa City Cemetery, with military rites conducted by 1st Squadron 113th Calvary, Army National Guard of Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Olson was born May 26, 1930, near Soldier, Iowa, the son of Olah T and Ethel (Harris) Olson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He graduated in 1947 from Soldier High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, stationed at Camp Chaffee, Ark, Japan and Korea.

He married Ardith Heisterkamp Aug. 6, 1953, in Blencoe, Iowa. He worked with various jobs in Sioux City, Cedar Rapids and Moorhead, Iowa and Omaha. He became an electronic technician and moved to Omaha in 1971. He owned and operated Olson's T.V., a retail sales and service store for 21 years. He retired in November 1992.

He was a member of Soldier Lutheran Church, Eagles Lodge and Monona County Veterans of Foreigh Wars Post 2694 of Onawa. He enjoyed fishing, boating and landscaping.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steven and his wife, Ellen of Elroy, Wis, and Douglas of Clarksville, Tenn; a daughter and her husband, Teresa Ann and Duane Miller of Onawa, four grandchildren, Daniel Trudeau, Jensen Miller and Kisa and Hillary Olson; a brother and his wife, Robert and Rita of Loveland, Colo; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Tony, Alan, Darin, Mark and Keith Heisterkamp and Edwin Benjamin.
