Lyle E. Mock, 79, of Whiting, Iowa, died Sunday, September 10, 2000 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Lyle was born January 24, 1921 in Gann Valley, SD, the son of Wilbur E. and Bernice (Shook) Mock. On August 31, 1940 he married Mae Gilgen in Onawa, Iowa. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He farmed from 1948 to 1964 when he owned Mock's Tavern in Whiting until retiring. He was a school bus driver for the Whiting Community School for 31 years.

He was a member of the Christian Church at Whiting and the Emery Johnson American Legion Post #481 at Whiting.

Survivors include his wife, Mae of Whiting; two daughters and their husbands, Sharon and Gary Linton of Gulf Shores, Al. and Janet and Hugh Whiles of Charlotte, NC; a daughter-in-law, Doreen Mock of Onawa; four grandchildren, Scott Carpenter, Jeff Carpenter, Bryant Mock, and Stacy Mock; three great grandchildren, Candice Carpenter, Summer Carpenter and Chelsea Carpenter; and one brother and his wife, Melvin and Janie Mock of Peru, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard; two infant sisters; and two brothers, Wilbur "Junior" and Earl "Curley".

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 14, 2000, at the Christian Church, Whiting, Iowa, with Rusty Hedger, Minister, officiating. The organist was Mrs. Dan Neldebergand the soloist, Mr. Adair Kaehlar, sang the selections, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Hallelujah Square".

Casket bearers were Chris Miller, Bryant Mock, Jeff Carpenter, Archie DeLashmutt, Richard Ingram and Mel Phillips.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa, with Flag Presentation by Emery Johnson American Legion Post #481, Whitng, Iowa, John Scott Commander.

Arrangements were by Pearson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Onawa.
