Chester Joseph Pape, 80, of Moorhead, Iowa died August 16, 2000 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Chet was born November 20. 1919 at Magnolia, Iowa, the son of Fritz and Martha (Bro) Pape. He attended school at Pisgah, Iowa. On December 31, 1938, he was married to Opal Hundahl at Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was a farmer and a self-employed truck driver. The couple moved to the farm outside of Pisgah where he farmed until health problems caused an early retirement in 1976. He also owned the C & O Cafe in Pisgah.

He was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church at Moorhead; Elk Lodge #586 A.F.&A.M. at Moorhead and Pisgah Saddle Club. He enjoyed working, farming, horses and his family and children.

He is survived by his wife, Opal of Moorhead; four daughters, Judy and her husband, Norman Kuhlman of Moorhead, Nancy and her husband, Gary McCue of Crete, Ne, Dixie Hageman of Denison, Iowa and Peggy and her husband Tom Bothwell of Moorhead; one son, Terry Pape of Moorhead; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Letha Huff of Pisgah and Vivian Melby of Dunlap; one brother, Glen Pape of Dunlap, and a sister-in-law Leila Pape of Pisgah, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fritz and Martha Pape; three brothers, John, Walter, and Richard and two sisters, Viola and Betty.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2000 at the Bethesda Lutheran Church at Moorhead, Iowa, with Pastor Margo Fohs officiating. The organist was Janice Smith. Kylie Bothwell sang "My Heart Will Go On" and Becky Marcum sang "Angels Among Us". The congregation sang "How Great Thou Art" A tape selection "The Dance" by Garth Brooks was played.

Honorary Bearers were Bill Hebb, Bun Hildreth, Byron Hinkel, John Lizor, Earl Hinkel, Bryan Hinkel, Chuck Wallis, Clayton McCue and Gene Bothwell.

Casket Bearers were Kevin Pape, Duane Renz, Todd Pratt, Dennis Marcum, Mark Flint, Troy Coberly, Dennis Smith and Randy Carrigan.

Interment was in Spring Valley Cemetery at Moorhead, Iowa with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home and Cremation Service at Onawa, Iowa.
