Marvin L. McCall, age 90, of Castana, Iowa, died Thursday, October 19, 2000, at Castana.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 21 at the Castana Community Church in Castana, Iowa, with Pastor Bob Fritzmeier officiating. Burial was in the Kennebec Cemetery, Castana. Patsy Petersen was the organist for the service and Nancy and Cathy Hanson were the vocalists, singing, "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art". The Congregation sang, "God Will Take Care of You". A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Marvin Lowell McCall was born February 28, 1910 in Jordan Township near Castana in Monona County, Iowa. He attended country school in Jordan Township and went onto graduate with the Soldier High School class of 1930. While in high school, Marvin played on the Soldier High School basketball team, known for their athletic ability and winning record.

On February 27, 1943, Marvin was united in marriage to Marian Hansen at Dakota City, Nebraska. Marvin's life work was in the land as a farmer. He also did custom bulldozing for area farmers until 1994 when he retired at the age of 84. In his earlier years, he often helped his brother, "Red" McCall with auctioneering.

Marvin was a member of the Castana Community Church at Castana.

Those survivors left to cherish Marvin's memory include Marian, his wife of 57 years; one daughter, Dianne McCall of Sioux City, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Michael and Patty McCall and Walter and Louise McCall, all of Castana, Iowa; seven grandchildren, David Baker of Phoenix, Arizona and his fiance, Jennifer Treinen, Dustin Baker of Sioux City, Iowa, Jennifer McCall Anderson and her husband, Darold of Austin, Texas, Victor McCall of Killeen, Texas and his fiance, Jill Handeland, and Christine, Brian and Jaime McCall, all of Castana, Iowa, and one sister, Leona Savery of Soldier, Iowa, along with several nieces and nephews, neighbors and good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Joe, Wayne, Dale and Eugene "Red" McCall.

Honorary pallbearers were Robert Carnes, Herman Doidge, Gilbert Gotto, Hosea "Junior" Carnes, Lee McCall and Leonard Gotto.

Pallbearers were Norman Savery, Don McCall, Joe Hastert, Gary McCall, Russ McCall and Richard Wilson.
