WHITING, Iowa -- Jack Mayer Valentine, 69, of rural Whiting died Monday, March 4, 2002, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Whiting Christian Church with Rev. Rusty Hedger officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Jack was born Dec. 7, 1932, in Kansas City, Mo., the oldest son of Arthur and Lillian Valentine. He graduated from Whiting High School in 1951 and attended Iowa State University for one year before entering the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany. After his discharge, he graduated from the University of Nebraska in Omaha with a degree in business engineering.

He was united in marriage to Sally Valentine on Oct., 24, 1954, at Onawa Christian Church in Onawa.

He was a member of Whiting Christian Church, where he served as a trustee. He loved to be with his family and friends and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren in sports and activities. Jack loved to camp and fish.

Those survivors to cherish Jack's memories are his wife, Sally of Whiting; two sons and their wives, Steve and Penny of Carmel, Ind., and David and Jennifer of Zionsville, Ind.; three daughters and their husbands, Cindy and Mike Zortman of Sioux City, Lori and Gary Cooper of Whiting and Brenda and Mike Abramovich of Cincinnati, Ohio; his grandchildren, Craig and Patrick Valentine, Leah and Cara Cooper, Kaylee and Krista Zortman, Alex, Kristina and Nicole Abramovich, Nicholas Beatty and Madison Valentine; his mother, Lillian Valentine of Beatrice, Neb.; two brothers and their wives, Ralph and Lyla of Beatrice and Richard and Martha of Silsbury, Texas; six nieces, five nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, maternal grandparents, paternal grandparents, an aunt, uncle, cousin and niece.
