John Walter Kohring, 49, of Sloan, Iowa, died Friday, December 29, 2000 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
He was born on March 2, 1951, in St Louis, Mo the son of John F and Mary Louise (LaFlam) He graduated from Hazelwood High School in St Louis in 1969. John served as a member of the National Guard for 10 years.

On February 21, 1975 he married Sandi Conrad in St Louis, Mo. The couple moved to Northwest Iowa in 1980. John was a sales person for Bear Graphics in Sioux City.

Survivors include his wife, Sandi of Sloan, one son, Brain David and his fiancé, Amber Kane and daughter, Emily of Correctionville, Iowa; two daughters, Michelle Lee Kohring of Denver, Co and Angela Dawn Kohring of Sloan, Iowa; an uncle and his wife, Lee and Betty Kohring of St Louis, Mo. And a special long time family friend, Pop LeRoy of St Louis, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary and an infant sister.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2001, at the Christian Church, Whiting, Iowa with Rusty Hedger, Minister. The organist was Nancy Brenden and the soloist, Tom Gerking, sang the selection, “In The Garden”. The taped selection was “Wind Beneath My Wings”.

Casket Bearers were Ron Sanders, Dale Conrad, Jim Ashmore, Lee Kohring, Gene Conrad and Bob Conrad.

Interment was in the Whiting Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Sloan
