Glatha M. York, Onawa, died on December 2, 1997 at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa at the age of 89 years 2 months and 28 days.

Glatha Minnie York was born September 4, 1908 at Correctionville, Iowa the daughter of George and Rosa Bell (Smith) Shut. She had seven sisters and two brothers. On December 4, 1924, Glatha was united in marriage to Albert (Bud York. To this union three children were born, Darlene, John A and Donald A York. Darlene and John died in infancy. The couple farmed southeast of Castana and later moved to a farm at Moorhead , Iowa. In 1965, they ran a restaurant in Turin, Iowa and in 1966, bought an acreage at Dunlap, Iowa. Due to Bud’s ill health, Glatha went to work at Little Flowers Havens Nursing Home. In 1969, the bought a home in Onawa, Iowa. Bud passed away August 31, 1976. Glatha then sold her home and moved in with her son, Donald. She had been in ill health for several years.

Survivors include her son, Donald A York, of Onawa, Iowa, along with many nieces and nephews. Glatha also leaves behind her dog and faithful friend, Buffy.

Along with her husband, Albert (Bud) and her two children, Darlene and John , Glatha was preceded in death by her parents, seven sisters, Opal Smith, Lola Varring, Bertha Wooley, Nola Jordon, Annie Loshe, Flossie Duncan and Lettie Wright and two brothers Lee and John Shut.

Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 5, 1997 at Armstrong Chapel in Mapleton with Pastor David Montecuollo officiating.

Sharon Kruse, organist played “Going Down The Valley” and “There Will Be No Night There”’

Pallbearers were Bernard Farber, Leonard Gotto, Gilbert Gotto, Ronnie Burke, Bob Lane and Kenneth Butler.

Interment was in Kennebec Cemetery at Castana with arrangements by Armstrong Funeral Services.
