Amy R. York was born November 22, 1878 at Rooks County, Kansas to John and Roda Bellis and passed from this life December 4, at the Little Flower Haven nursing home at Earling. She had reached the age of 88 years and 12 days.

Amy came to Essex, Iowa in 1879 and in 1889 moved to Castana. She made her home in Soldier for about 20 years and then moved to Ute, where she lived for eight years. For the past six months she had made her home at the Little Flower Haven nursing home.

March 2, 1898. Amy was united in marriage to John A York at Castana. Mr. York preceded her in death February 12, 1924.

She was a member of the Christian Church at Castana.
Survivors include a son, Albert “Bud” York of Earling; two sisters, Mrs. June Mortensen of Moorhead and Mrs. Ollie Perkins of Shenandoah; three grandsons and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Clifford in 1955, a sister, Bessie Mason in 1954, a brother, Ad Bellis in 1965 and two grandchildren, Darlene and John Albert.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 6, at the Castana Community Church with Pastors Walter W. Stark and Everett Epperson officiating. Evan Davies sang “The Old Rugged Cross” “Abide With Me” with Mrs. Davies as organist.

Bearers were Leo Bellis, Robert Bellis, John Mortensen, Roy Bellis, Lowell Dinwiddie and Willis Brink. Interment was in the Kennebec cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral home.
